GTR Mapping was started in late 1984, the owner having been an exploration geologist with extensive traveling throughout the Rocky Mountain region during the previous 16 years. GTR's first published map was in 1985, the Colorado Geologic Highway Map. Cartography is experiencing drastic changes in how maps are made, from manual cartography techniques - now to total computer cartography, and GTR is also going through this transition, now compiling maps in digital form, which are delivered to a printer for digital output of printing plates, from which paper maps are produced on press.
We try to deliver as much information on our maps as practical, and still present it in as readable and attractive format as possible. We are constantly collecting, reviewing, and organizing information for map updating and compilation. Just some of the sources or governmental departments we access for information includes the departments of transportation, State Parks, Fish & Game, U. S. Forest Service, BLM, National Parks, U. S. Fish & Wildlife, Bureau of Reclamation, Corps of Engineers, Census Bureau, chambers of commerce, visitors bureaus, etc. A considerable amount of field checking has also been done to verify some of the data. We appreciate any feedback; please drop us a line or an email.
